Gord Stellick: “So the Toronto Maple Leaf situation, or 31 other situations. He’s a friend and colleague of yours now, Chris Pronger, just on our show, so we asked him, his name is out there. He said he’s not been asked by Toronto. I think playing a little bit coy about Never say never. Never say no. It’s got to be the right kind of situation.
And people fans get caught up with sexy names, but there’s been a lot of, as we know, the Luc Robitalle’s of the world, the Jeff Jackson‘s of the world, whether it’s a president or general manager. What kind of traction do you think he might be getting for this situation or any other situations?”
Is Chris Pronger Interested in a Management Role Again?
Elliotte Friedman: “Well, Gordy, like I have to say, I’ve always thought of Chris Pronger as incredibly talented. I’ve always thought about him as a mean player that I loved watching. And I always thought of him as a guy, that if I was building a team, I’d take him 100 times out of 100, but I’ve never thought of him as sexy until now.” (laughs)
Stellick: (laughs) “Okay, get rid of that visual.”
Friedman: ” I think Pronger was interviewed in Nashville. I’m going to get myself in trouble here. I don’t like the whole Nashville process. It was about like, an interview might be the wrong word. They definitely spoke to him, I used the phrase interview once, and someone said to me, it wasn’t an interview. It was like a get together. Like, an informal introduction. Anyway, he spoke to Nashville, and he was part of that search.
I don’t think he’s going to be, I don’t believe he’s one of the finalists, but they definitely talked. And like the one thing I’ve learned about Keith Pelley, I worked for Keith before, and I’m dealing with him now as a reporter, is that he takes meetings. Like, somebody says, I’m going to meet with you. If somebody calls him and says, Keith, I’d like to meet with you, he’ll listen. Like he’s not afraid to take a meeting, and he’s not afraid to sit down with someone and hear what they have to say.
It will be an interesting offseason of change for the Toronto Maple Leafs
And so I wouldn’t know if Chris is interested, and I’m with you, Gord, I have no doubt he’s interested. It wouldn’t surprise me if Pelley said, you know what, I’d like to see what this guy’s about.”
NHLRumors.com Note: We know the Nashville Predators have talked to a wide array of candidates for their open position. Pronger has been part of that process. There is no doubt he will talk to the Toronto Maple Leafs as well. He is a hot commodity, and there is a reason his name is out there.
