The Philadelphia Flyers have traded defenseman Braydon Coburn to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 1st and 3rd round pick and defenseman Radko Gudas.
The 30-year old Coburn was drafted 8th overall in the 2003 draft by the Thrashers. He carries a $4.5 million for one more year.
The 24-year old Gudas was drafted 66th overall in the 3rd round of the 2010 draft by the Lightning. He carries a $991,667 salary cap hit and has one-year left on his deal.
Thoughts from the media
Andy Tonge: “That’s one hell of a price to pay for Coburn, but it is certainly lessened by the fact that they got a good price for Connolly.”
Andy Tonge: “BTW there is a link between the #Flyers and Gudas. Gudas was in camp for #LAKings when Hextall was assistant GM.”
Joe Yerdon: “How perfect is Gudas for Philly though?”
Joe Smith: “Yzerman has said there was a chance Gudas wouldn’t be ready to return for the playoffs. Irony is his absence sparked a move for ‘D’ depth”
Shawn Simpson: “Tampa Bay is my favorite to come out of the East. Coburn fits nicely. Size and mobility.”
