Morning notes on Bernier, Predators want a top 4 Dman, 5 Questions, Laviolette, Semin, Butler and CSKA

  • L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Sources tell TVA Sports that Jonathan Bernier hasn’t spoken with Kings GM Dean Lombardi since he said he wanted a trade. Bernier has the mindset that he’ll be a member of the of the Kings at training camp. The Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Maple Leafs and a few Eastern teams are interested.
  • Jim Diamond of the Examiner: Predators GM David Poile said he wants the give the his young players the opportunity to earn a roster spot.

    “Going into training camp, we are not done adding pieces if we can add another piece, especially in a top four defense we are going to try and do that,” Trotz said later Wednesday on a conference call discussing the matching of Weber’s offer sheet. “There is limited value out there in terms of free agency, but there are guys we are looking at a possibility of a trade. There could be a piece there.”

  • Dan Rosen of the NHL.com: 5 Questions still to be answered. 1. Where will Shane Doan sign? 2. Is Bobby Ryan going to be traded, and to which team? 3. When will the Canucks trade Roberto Luongo? 4. Will the Toronto Maple Leafs get a goalie? 5. Which team will take the gamble on Alexander Semin?
  • Sarah Baicker via twitter: The Flyers have been working on an extension with coach Laviolette since the draft. Contract expires after next season.
  • Chip Alexander via twitter: Alexander Semin on the appeal of playing with the Hurricanes: “Carolina has a good team. We want it to be a good playoff team.”
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators will be buying Bobby Butler out. They’ve been trying to trade him since February.
  • Matias Strozyk via twitter: Putin has criticized CSKA’s spending. Noted their salaries can be crazy, more than NHL teams, and would like to create some general rules.
