The Montreal Canadiens have signed Carey Price to an eight-year contract extension worth $84 million – a $10.5 million salary cap hit.
The 29-year old Price was drafted 5th overall in the 2005 draft by the Canadiens
Thoughts from the media …
Darren Dreger: “Given NHL’s labour history, there are a lot of people paranoid about the future. Price had the leverage to make this deal work. Most don’t.”
Pierre LeBrun: “So $70 million worth of signing bonuses in Price’s $84 million contract. Wow.”
Eric Engels: “Carey Price is the highest-paid goaltender in the NHL by $2 million per season”
Chris Johnston: “Carey Price’s $10.5M AAV will briefly be tied for the highest committed to a NHL player. Then Connor McDavid will put pen to paper.”
Elliotte Friedman: “Price AAV is $10.5M. Big win for them to get him done.”
Eric Engels: “Carey Price and Shea Weber are locked in with the Habs for the next nine years.”
W/ Price extended at 10.5M beginning next season, #Habs currently have $53M committed between 14 players for 2018-19https://t.co/lffSdAZeWP
