Jerry Dipaola of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: The Penguins re-signed Conor Sheary to a three-year deal worth $9 million – a $3 million salary cap hit. The sides had a salary arbitration hearing set for Friday.
“It was difficult in the sense it took time to (finalize the deal), but it was all worth it,” Sheary said by phone Sunday. “I am excited and happy to get it done. Hopefully, it won’t be my last.”
Sheary scored 21 of his 23 goals at even strength last season. He struggled during the playoffs only finding the back of the net twice in 22 games and was even made a healthy scratch.
Sheary and Brian Dumoulin – who as signed last Monday – share the same agent, Lewis Gross.
“When we were talking about Dumoulin, we were also talking Conor,” Rutherford said.

On the Minnesota Wild …
Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: The Minnesota Wild and Nino Niederreiter agreed to a five-year contract worth $26.25 million – a $5.25 million salary cap hit.
The deal doesn’t include a no-trade clause and buys three years of unrestricted free agency.
Niederrieter had career highs with 25 goals and 57 points last season as a 24-year old.
The Wild are still discussing a contract for Mikael Granlund in the three to five year range according to GM Chuck Fletcher. They have an arbitration date schedule for this Friday if a deal can’t be reached beforehand.
