St. Louis Blues stand pat the deadline

Jeremy Rutherford: on the St. Louis Blues holding pat at the trade deadline.

“- They’re playing well, chemistry is good
– Don’t have a 2019 1st rounder, don’t want to give up another
– Don’t have cap room
– Trading for 15-20G scorer doesn’t put them over edge against WPG, NSH, etc
– Roll with this team, regroup in summer”

Jeremy Rutherford: Blues GM Doug Armstrong on standing pat at the trade deadline.

“They’ve earned the right to stay together. We didn’t want to disrupt the chemistry. But also what we didn’t want to do was stagnate the growth of MacEachern, or Blais or Kyrou. By adding another later up front, it eliminates the options for those guys.”

Simmonds would sign back with the Flyers

Sam Carchidi: Source said that former Philadelphia Flyer Wayne Simmonds would strongly consider signing back with the Flyers when free agency gets underway on July 1st. Source adds “He loves Philadelphia.”

Wild GM will continue to look to reshape their roster

Chris Nichols of Nichols on Hockey: Darren Dreger on TSN 1040 said that Minnesota GM Paul Fenton has made some ‘somewhat’ small moves in his attempt to put his stamp on the team since taking over. He’s been around the team long enough to realize their strengths and weaknesses and has a vision of what he’d like them to look like.

“I think that there’s a whole lot of work that needs to get done. I’m not there, so this is a bit of an unfair comment – I get a bad vibe around the Minnesota Wild, and I’m not entirely sure why. You wonder – and this is just wild speculation again – on the future of Bruce Boudreau, who I happen to think is an excellent coach. But he wasn’t a coach hired by Paul Fenton. Paul Fenton, he inherited Bruce Boudreau, and I think Bruce Boudreau has got one of those unique contracts where if he’s not coaching, he has the wherewithal to be an advisor, any of those things.”

Dreger believes that more changes will be coming for the Wild leading up to and at the NHL draft in June.
