Carolina Hurricanes ink Brock McGinn to a new deal
Austin Isham of Cardiac Cane: Brock McGinn signed a two-year deal valued at $2.1 million AAV. It pays him $1.9 million for the 2019-20 season then $2.3 million for the 2020-21 campaign.
This uses up the remaining two RFA years that McGinn had. After the contract expires, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. For the Hurricanes, arbitration gets avoided and they can focus on the rest of the summer. As for McGinn, there are no NMC or NTC’s in this contract.
Carolina gets a solid penalty killer and bottom-six forward back into the fold. At times, McGinn can play up in the lineup plus not look out of place.

Carolina still working on bringing back Justin Williams?
Omar Abdelgawad of Cardiac Cane: The Carolina Hurricanes appear interested in re-signing Justin Williams to a one-year deal. Unfortunately, there presents one problem. Carolina could be fresh out of cap space.
The Hurricanes want to pay him more than $2.5 million in his final year but they have several RFA’s still to sign yet. It still appears Don Waddell needs a trade partner to move a bit more salary and yes, there is a team that has a need.
Fortunately, the Columbus Blue Jackets need a veteran goalie for insurance. They seem to, anyway. If Carolina dangled a James Reimer, would Columbus be inclined to bite? This may take an additional pick or player but it would be something the Blue Jackets may consider.
Does Andrew Copp head for arbitration after all?
Gavin Lee of Pro Hockey Rumors: Winnipeg and Andrew Copp appear far apart according to what they requested before their arbitration hearing Sunday. Copp wants a one-year deal worth $2.9 million while the Jets are willing to pay $1.5 million AAV for two seasons.
As of press time, there were no signs of an impending agreement. Therefore, a hearing will take place. Remember, there is a 48-hour window after the hearing for signing to occur. Either way, Andrew Copp expects a bigger role in Winnipeg and to be paid for it. This should be interesting. Copp could look at Brock McGinn and figure hey I deserve more money than that for example.
