  • L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier said that he asked to be traded near the deadline, and the Kings refused. He expects to be traded close to home around the start of training camp.
  • Lisa Dillman via twitter: Dillman doesn’t think the the Kings will be trading Bernier now or in the near future. His trade value is extremely low at the moment.
  • NHL.com: Bernier to TVA Sports:

“I asked the Kings to trade me before the trade deadline, but they refused,” Bernier said. “Now that Jonathan Quick signed a long-term deal, I expect to be traded before training camp starts.”

  • Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider: If the Kings get an offer they like for Bernier that would help the team in the long run, they would likely trade him. If they don’t like the offers, they won’t. Bernier said the Kings “refused” to trade at the deadline. The Kings did talk to several teams at the deadline, but didn’t like the offers they got. Yes, the re-signing of Quick increases the chances that Bernier could be traded in the short term, but it doesn’t guarantee anything.
  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Flyers Scott Hartnell is entering the last year of his 6 year, $25.5 million deal.

“Scott would welcome coming back; he loves it in Philadelphia,” his agent, Matt Oates, said. “But we haven’t had any contact with the Flyers just yet.”

The Flyers usually start contract extension talks with players they are interested in re-signing a year out, and they’ll probably be doing it soon with Hartnell. A new CBA in September may change how some teams act, possibly delaying a signing.

  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: It’s “the quiet period” according to Red Wings GM Ken Holland. There have only been 4 players since July 5th that have signed for over a $1 million. The Wings  remain in contact with Shane Doan, but the odds remain that he’ll re-sign with the Coyotes. Alexander Semin is still available, but teams are wary of his high skill, low production and lax attitude.
