- Craig Custance via twitter: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman uses a specific strategy when looking to make midseason trades. Along with his scouting staff, they target specific players who they think would be a good fit with their team and who could become available. He lets the other GMs know exactly which players he’s interested in.
“I’ve already called around and made it known: This is a player on your team that we really like,” Bowman said. “We have a group of guys we like and we’ll probably go after them. If the teams don’t want to trade them, they don’t want to trade them.”
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli watched the Penguins-Flyers game the other night, and spoke with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren for the entire 2nd intermission. He also scouted the Flyers on Jan. 22nd against the Devils. The Flyers could use some help on the blueline. The Bruins have seven capable Dmen on the roster with at least four AHL guys ready to help at the NHL level. The Bruins could use some scoring/depth on the wing. Penguins Tyler Kennedy has been in the hot seat and is in the last year of his deal that pays him $2 million. Flyers Ruslan Fedotenko could fill in a bottom-six role.
- Kevin Schultz of Islanders Point Blank: A Swiss report has the Islanders 35-year old defenseman Mark Streit saying he’s looking for a 3 year, $10 million deal with the Islanders. He added that he’d be interested in a four year.
