  • TSN: The Chicago Blackhawks will be without defenseman Brian Campbell for at least the first month of the season with a sprained knee.
  • Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province: Darcy Hordichuk and Shane O’Brien have been placed on waivers, and will be sent to the AHL if they clear. O”Brien’s salary is $1.6 million this year, Hordichuk’s cap hit is $750,000.
  • Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Brooks rants about how the Islanders are circumventing the cap with using Yashin and Witt’s buyout to reach the salary floor, and how the CBA ‘allows’ teams to take advantage of these types of ‘loopholes’.
  • Chris Johnston via twitter: Next round of cuts the Maple Leafs is Monday.
  • Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Michael Cammalleri slash on Nino Niederreiter will be under review by the league.
  • Josh Cooper the Tennessean: Jonas Andersson and Sergei Kostitsyn are battling for the ‘depth’ position on the Nashville Predators, 26 players remain with the club. “For the most part, we are still looking at Kostitsyn, we are still looking at Andersson, we are still looking at all those guys,” Trotz said.
