Canadiens reportedly offer Subban a 2 year deal … Doan, the Canucks and Sabres … Ennis talks to resume

  • TSN: RDS is reporting the Canadiens have offered P.K. Subban a 2 year deal worth $5.5 million, but both sides are far apart as Subban is looking for a longer deal. Subban’s agent, Mark Guy told TVA Sports, “I don’t see anything being done in the short term.” L.A. Lariviere via twitter: Subban’s agent denied the report that Subban had a 2 year, $5.5 million offer, “if that’s what they’re saying, it’s inaccurate.”  Jimmy Murphy via twitter: An NHL source, “PK Subban should take Habs’ offer and earn bigger one. But maybe he and agent want more term and are worried about CBA.”
  • Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: There were multiple reports that the Shane Doan visited the Canucks on Tuesday night. This could indicate he’s moving on from the Coyotes, or at least investigating his options more thoroughly. Brad Ziemer via twitter: Doan is the guy the Canucks really want, but they’ve also been talking with Jason Arnott. He could fit in as their 3rd line center.
  • Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: The Canucks are rumored to have interest in Panthers Nick Bjugstad, but they are reluctant to move him. The Canucks “would have interest if Bjugstad came with at least a draft pick because Luongo should command at least that and not merely be a salary dump.” The Canucks are looking for a top 6 forward and have great interest in Doan. If the Canucks were to take on a high Doan salary, it could be offset in the short term by trading Mason Raymond ($2.275 million for 1 year). Until the Doan situation is resolved, Luongo is likely to remain with the Canucks. If Bjugstad is untouchable, Sean Bergenheim could be a nice piece in a Luongo package. He’s 28 with a $2.75 million cap hit for the next 3 years.
  • Nick Veronica of the Buffalo News: There is still no meeting scheduled between Doan and the Sabres yet.

“No, we have not met with , and I don’t know whether we will meet with him,” Regier said, well-versed in general manager lingo. “We’re monitoring the situation, and I’d leave it at that.”

“What I would say about Shane’s situation is that I admire the level of loyalty he’s provided to his club,” Regier said. “He’s spent his whole career  with that organization, and I think that’s meaningful, and I admire that, but in the event he’s not going to stay there, we certainly would have an interest.”

GM Darcy Regier on contract talks with Tyler Ennis,

“We spoke with his agent yesterday (Tuesday) and I think that will continue today,” Regier said. “That’s always a hard one . Close. … The positive is it’s moving in the right direction.”
