The Detroit Red Wings have traded goaltender Petr Mrazek to the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional 2018 4th round pick and a conditional 2019 3rd round pick.
Bob McKenzie: “DET guaranteed no less than a 4th round for Mrazek. If PHI makes playoffs and Mrazek wins 5 games for PHI in reg season, 4th becomes a 3rd. If PHI advances to CF, and Mrazek wins six playoff games, the 3rd becomes a 2nd. If PHI re-signs him next season, DET gets PHI 3rd in 19.”
Bob McKenzie: “So the minimum DET gets for Mrazek is a fourth-round pick, that could become a third- or a second-round pick, dependent on how Mrazek/Flyers perform. The additional pick, a third-rounder, is conditional only on Mrazek re-signing in PHI.”
The 26-year old Mrazek was drafted 141st overall in the 5th round of the 2010 draft by the Red Wings. He’s a pending RFA and makes $4 million this season.
Craig Custance: The Red Wings are retaining half of Mrazek’s salary.
Thoughts from the media …
Chris Johnston: “Petr Mrazek was left exposed in the Vegas expansion draft and has been the subject of trade talks throughout the season. The #redwings finally found the right fit with #flyers injuries.”
Chris Johnston: “Petr Mrazek is considered an RFA this summer, but the all-knowing @CapFriendly points out that he’ll require a qualifying offer at his current salary: $4.15M. Otherwise, Mrazek hits the open market July 1.”
Nick Cotsonika: “Mrazek was exposed in expansion draft. Vegas could have taken him or flipped him to another team — and passed. That was a clue about how the NHL valued him.”
David Pagnotta: “Flyers kept on tabs on Mrazek for a while, then obviously needed to make a move now. Solid add for them for short term”
Cap Friendly: “#Redwings now have 7 picks in the first 4 rounds and a total of 9 picks in the 2018 NHL entry draft. Additionally, #RedWings currently hold 9 picks in the 2019 NHL draft.”
Michael Traikos: “Mrazek (.910 sv%) gives the #Flyers about the same type of goaltending that they were receiving from Elliott (.908 sv%). Still, it’s too funny that Philly is once again in this position.”
Manny Elk: “I’m not saying Mrazek is a great goalie but he has a better GSAA since 2015 than Rinne, Allen, Lehner, Varlamov and Dubnyk.”
