Discussion: Trading for a bad contract with the purpose of buying them out

I’ve created a separate post for people to discuss the idea of a team trading for a bad contract with the purpose of buying that player out. As part of the deal, the team obtaining the bad contract would get a better prospect and/or pick than what they are sending the team who is dumping the bad contract.

This comes from an earlier post where the Leafs Claude Loiselle told TSN that the Leafs are looking at acquiring bad contracts and that they have the ability to buy them out.

What are your thoughts on teams doing this? Is it unfair for teams that don’t have the financial backing like the Maple Leafs?

I don’t think there is anything that can be done to stop it.
