Doan to sign with Coyotes or Canucks today … Canucks-Burrows not close … Ryan staying … A. Kostitsyn to KHL … Versteeg, Lilja injury update

  • Harrison Mooney of the Vancouver Sun: John Gambadoro of Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix is saying that Shane Doan will sign somewhere by 2 pm today (PST), as all contracts have to be signed by then to count under the expiring CBA. He’ll be signing with either the Coyotes or the Canucks. Doan has said he won’t sign with the Coyotes unless the sale of the team goes through, but that has yet to happen. If Doan does sign with the Canucks, it will be harder for GM Mike Gillis to get market value for Roberto Luongo. Gillis will need to move out salary, something that he wouldn’t have had to do before a possible Doan signing.
  • Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: The Canucks are running out of time to sign Alex Burrows to a contract extension, and according to Burrows agent, Paul Corbeil, they continue to talk but there is a ways to go. They haven’t found common ground on money and term. Burrows is entering the last year of 4 year, $8 million deal, and will be 32 years old when the deal expires.

“That’s what we’re looking at from our side,” Corbeil said. “A (deal) that’s about six years. Five or six years.”

  • Jesse Spector via twitter: Players have to sign by today if they want their contracts to count under the current CBA.
  • Sam Carchidi via twitter: Carchidi has been told that the Flyers haven’t given an offer sheet to P.K. Subban and will not try to acquire him.
  • Eric Stephens via twitter: Bobby Ryan of the Ducks plans to stay in Southern California and hasn’t considered other options if there is a long lockout, “I know you’ll lose guys right way. That being said, I’m an NHL player. I’m not going to take somebody else’s job overseas.”
  • Genadi Boguslavski via twitter: Andrei Kostitsyn signed a 1 year deal with Traktor of the KHL.
  • George Richards via twitter: Panthers Kris Versteeg said he could be 2 months away from playing after he had hip surgery.
  • Sam Carchidi via twitter: Flyers Andreas Lilja is now allowed to walk without crutches. He’ll get paid during the lockout since he is injured.
  • Genadi Boguslavski via twitter: Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar had their first practice with Metalurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL. Both will play there during the lockout.
