Staal still not on the ice

Sara Civ: Carolina Hurricanes Jordan Staal still isn’t skating and there is no update on his status. Coach Rod Brind’Amour is hopeful that they could get him back this season.

Blue Jackets lose both Atkinson and Jenner

Sportsnet: Columbus Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson missed last night’s game after he took a puck to the face during warmups.

Jason Bell: Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner will be out for one to three weeks with an infected cut on his ankle.

Canadiens won’t confirm if Juulsen has a serious eye injury

Eric Engels of Sportsnet: The Montreal Canadiens wouldn’t confirm or deny that defenseman Noah Juulsen could have a career-threatening eye injury.

A senior executive with the Canadiens said he doesn’t have a concussion and has an upper-body injury that requires rest.

Juulsen last played December 27 in the AHL and had been wearing a full face shield for the previous seven NHL and AHL games.

Renaud Lavoie: It’s possible that Juulsen could be able to play at some point this season but there is no timetable.

John Lu:  Andrew Shaw took part in his first full practice since his injury. He hasn’t been cleared for contact and won’t be the lineup on Saturday.

Hall visiting a doctor

Mike Morreale: New Jersey Devils coach John Hynes: “Taylor Hall went to see a doctor today (did not skate); Stefan Noesen skated today; Ben Lovejoy did not.”

Update on Ladd and Hickey

New York Islanders: Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello: “Andrew Ladd and Thomas Hickey are skating. Now it’s just a case of them getting into condition so they’re ready to play. They will be taking optional practices. As far as the injuries, they’re in the past. It’s just getting into hockey shape.”

Howden out up to a month

Brett Cyrgalis: New York Rangers forward Brett Howden will be out for three to four weeks with a knee injury.

Gostisbehere out this weekend

John Boruk: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will miss Saturday’s game after re-aggravating his lower-body injury on Monday.

Dave Isaac: Flyers coach Scott Gordon on Gostisbehere: “We were hopeful for Saturday but I don’t think that’s gonna be realistic. The fact that he had eight days off, been off for a week, now you’re at two weeks since he’s played, whether it’s Monday or the following Thursday, I don’t know yet.”
