Eastern Conference Injury Updates

Conor Ryan: Boston Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy on defenseman Charlie McAvoy: “I don’t believe there’s anything more (than a cut). … First thing you’re worried about is a concussion, obviously. But I think it was just a cut. … I’m gonna assume that’s the worst of the damage.”

Not good. McAvoy tries to break up a shorthanded chance, and hits his head off the post.

Detroit Red Wings:  Defenseman Mike Green missed last night’s game with an illness. Trevor Dailey missed last night’s game as well.

Arpon Basu: Montreal Canadiens coach Claude Julien said that forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi‘s groin injury doesn’t appear to be long-term and he could be back skating in the next few days.

John Lu: Coach Julien said that Kotkaniemi had been dealing with the groin issue before it flared up last Wednesday. They are being cautious and put him on the IR.

Laura Albanese: New York Islanders coach Barry Trotz said that Nick Leddy, Jordan Eberle and Leo Komarov won’t be in the lineup.

Leddy is likely another game away from returning. There is no timetable for either Eberle or Komarov. Komarov was on the ice before practice yesterday.

Arthur Staple: Eberle practice yesterday with a no-contact jersey.

Sens Communications: Ottawa Senators Scott Sabourin returned to Ottawa Sunday night. The team’s medical staff will continue to observe him.

Sam Carchidi: Philadelphia Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said that forward Sean Couturier has a shoulder strain that limited his time taking faceoffs on Saturday. He’ll need more time to heal.

Matt Vensel: Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said that defenseman Kris Letang has a lower-body injury and was being evaluated after the game. Sullivan wouldn’t discuss what it would mean if it were a long-term injury.

Joe Smith: Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman was on the ice practicing this morning. A good sign that he could be ready for Friday’s game.

Dave McCarthy: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman is practicing at full speed, feels really good and continues to say he’s real close to returning. He hasn’t played yet this year after having ACL surgery.

Dave McCarthy: Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin will return the lineup against the Kings.

Mark Zwolinski of the Toronto Star: Maple Leafs John Tavares hopes to get clearance to return to the lineup tonight.
