Eastern Conference Injury Updates
John Vogl: Buffalo Sabres coach Ralph Krueger said that forward Jimmy Vesey won’t play tonight. He’s still listed as day-to-day.
Eric Engels: Montreal Canadiens forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi is day-to-day with a groin injury.
Andrew Gross: New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson and forward Leo Komarov both missed practice yesterday with an illness.
Larry Brooks: New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad hasn’t practiced since he took the hit from Patrice Bergeron on Sunday.
Bruce Garrioch: Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot left practice with a neck issue. They hope that he’ll be able to skate today and play tomorrow.
Dave Isaac: Philadelphia Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher on forward Nolan Patrick when asked if Patrick could miss the season. He’s listed as week-to-week.
“I can’t speculate on that. I’m an optimist. I can tell you he’s a really important part of our team. You look at our situation now, we have two centermen, two key players on our team out. Nolan’s a player that will help us win a lot of hockey games when he gets back. We’re hopeful. It’s a tough situation. I won’t speculate because I can’t. Just can’t predict what will happen.
Matt Vensel: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin practiced yesterday and intends to play on the weekend.
“I feel ready to play. I have two more days. We’ll see,” the center said.
Tom Gulitti: Washington Capitals coach Todd Reirden said that forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nic Dowd are both day-to-day and they aren’t sure if either will be able to go tonight.
There are now 16 teams (more than half the league) who are using, or who have already used, LTIR in order to remain cap complaint so far this season.
