The New York Rangers have acquired Tim Erixon and a 5th round draft pick from the Calgary Flames for 2 2011 2nd round draft picks and Roman Horak.
Erixon was a 2009 1st round pick by the Flames. Today was the deadline for 2009 picks to sign an entry level contract or go back into the draft. Once it appeared they weren’t going to be able to sign him, the Flames decided to trade him as they could get more through a trade than through compensation for failing to sign him.
Calgary will receive the 45th and 57th overall picks in this years draft. The Rangers acquired the 57th overall pick from Carolina in the Bobby Sanguinetti trade. Carolina had acquired the pick from Washington in the Joe Corvo trade in 2010.
