- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avalanche and Ryan O’Reilly’s camp did talk, but it looking like neither side is going to budge. The Avs remain at 2 years and $7 million or 5 years and $17 million. O’Reilly is closer on the 2 year deal than on the 5 years, where he’s looking for closer to $25 million. Two scenarios could now be either a trade or an offer sheet. It’s unclear if the Avs would consider moving him. The possibility of an offer sheet is growing. If O’Reilly signed a deal between $3,364,392 to $5,046,585, the Avs would get a 1st and 3rd round pick. If between $5,046,586 to $6,728,781, it would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd round pick. Offers $6.7 million and higher are at least 2 1st round picks. If the Avs matched the offer, they are not allowed to trade him for one year.
- Tim Panaccio via twitter: The Flyers are close to re-signing Kimmo Timonen to a 1 year deal worth $6 million. An announcement could come before the end of the week. John Boruk via twitter: That would put the Flyers at 19 players signed for next season, with $2.2 million in cap space.
- Iain MacIntyre via twitter: “Bad for Luongo trade mission if Flames ever come to their senses and use Kiprusoff as rebuilding chip. His injury helps”
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Francis doesn’t think the Flames would send a 2nd round pick to the Senators for goalie Ben Bishop. The Sens are looking to get back a 2nd round pick for him, as that is what they sent the Blue last year for him. They haven’t made any calls about Roberto Luongo.
- Spector’s Hockey via twitter: Darren Dreger said that teams are interested in Maple Leafs Phil Kessel. GM Dave Nonis is listening but no trade is currently in the works.
- John Hoven via twitter: Source tell MayorsManor that 4 teams are very interested in Kings Jonathan Bernier, but the asking price remains very high.
- Sam Carchidi via twitter: A source says that there is a slim chance that the Flyers make a trade before Scott Hartnell returns to the lineup.
- Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News: When asked if the things don’t go well for the Sabres this weekend, would he be forced to make a big change, either the players or coach, GM Darcy Regier responded:
“It won’t be the coach.”
Regier’s been looking at the trade market, but it’s “soft.” The Sabres have allowed 37 goals in 10 games, the most the league.
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Capitals GM George McPhee is making calls. The trade market is quiet with teams not ready to move parts, but McPhee is seeing what is out there. If he’s able to do something, LeBrun thinks he could move some blue-line depth for offensive help.
