- Helene St. James: Daniel Cleary signed a three-year contract with the Flyers, averaging $2.75 million. The deal has a no-trade clause and won’t be official until the end of the month. Chris Nichols: Unless there is a trade, the Flyers can’t sign him until Chris Pronger is put on the LTIR at the start of the season.
- Ottawa Senators: The Senators signed Colin Greening to a three-year deal with a cap hit of $2.65 million.
- Bruce Arthur: Bob McKenzie said on TSN Radio that the Nazem Kadri is asking for a two-year deal worth $7 million, the Leafs are offering two-years at $5.7 million.
- Dan Rosen: There are still some intriguing UFAs: Brenden Morrow, Ron Hainsey, Vinny Prospal, Damien Brunner, David Steckel,
Daniel Clearyand Ilya Bryzgalov.
- Craig Custance: One general manager said he prefers bridge contracts over long-term deals for RFAs as it keeps the player motivated. Even the best intentioned player can get complacent sometimes.
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: It’s not looking like Rangers Derek Stepan (RFA) will be at the start of their training camp. Stepan is looking for five- or six-year deal at around $5 million a season. The Rangers are offering a two-year deal around $2.75-$3 million a season. Stepan doesn’t have a lot of leverage in negotiations. The Rangers have about $3 million in cap space, which could increase if Carl Hagelin and/or Ryan Callahan are put on the LTIR. Any deal above $3.5 million will make it difficult for Ranger management to fit in.
- Elliotte Friedman of CBC: One NHL executive: “The teams with money don’t have room, the teams with cap space don’t have money.” The first major meeting between Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini and Daniel and Henrik Sedin was last Friday. No offers were exchanged, but both sides will prepare proposals. Henrik Lundqviston if Rangers fans have something to worry about regarding his future with the team:
“I’m not even thinking about it,” he said Friday. “It doesn’t matter, contract or no contract … I just want to focus on the year. It is an important year for me and the organization. It’s time for us to take a good step in the right direction.”
Lundqvist’s camp is expected to meet with the Rangers this week.
- Josh Rimer: UFA Jamie Langenbrunner when asked if he’s talking with any teams, “No, Pretty Quiet.”
- Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune: David Steckel will attend the Wild’s camp on a PTO.
- Arthur Staple: Defenseman Radek Martinek may be heading to the Islanders camp on a PTO. Brad Boyes is deciding between the Islanders and one other team.
- David Alter: Mason Raymond had calls from European teams but his intention was to remain in the NHL.
