Free Agent Hits: Horton, Bryzgalov, Stewart, Rask, Briere, Ference, Nabokov and the Rangers
  • Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Source saying that Nathan Horton could be looking for a 5-6 year contract in the $5.5-6 million range. Source added that he could take less than that to remain in Boston.
  • David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Ilya Bryzgalov’s agent, Ritch Winter, said that Bryzgalov may consider signing with the Oilers if they were interested.

“He would really, really hate the weather,” Winter said. “And he and I are very, very much on the same page there. But it’s one of the teams that he and I talked about. He likes the energy here. He likes the fact, you know, he’s never played in a hockey city. He’s got a good relationship with the media. As all of you know, he’s a fun interview. He’s a great guy. He’s got a great personality. Lots of energy.

“So Edmonton is definitely a place, if they’re interested, Craig MacTavish contacts me on July 3 when we can start having these communications, Ilya will actively consider Edmonton. And, quite frankly, I’d love him to be here because it would really, really, really buoy up the sports media and the sports environment….He’s just a lot of fun.

“Edmonton would be a hockey decision he’d be very much interested in. It depends what they think of him.”

  • Lou Korac: Blues GM Doug Armstrong on RFA Chris Stewart: “We’re more open to discussing some term with Chris now. … at the end of the day, he was our leading scorer.”
  • Chris Nicols: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said that they are looking to sign Tuukka Rask to a contract extension, then they’ll move onto RFA Anton Khudobin.
  • Erik Erlendsson: It’s unlikely that the Lightning would try to sign defenseman Andrew Ference on July 5th, they have limited cap room. Might be a quiet free agent market for them.
  • Katie Strang: The Rangers have had preliminary talks with with Carl Hagelin, Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan.
  • Todd Cordell: AHL Manchester Monarchs (LAK) have signed goalie Mathias Niederberger.
