John Shannon via twitter: Good news for the Coyotes in that Glendale taxpayers have endorsed a sales tax increase. The new Mayor is not a fan of payouts to the Coyotes though.
David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Glendale tax payers voted to increase the city’s sales tax. Part of the $25 million was to go towards the Coyotes, averaging $15 million a year over their 20 year arena lease. The problem for the Coyotes is that there is no guarantee that city council will keep the lease in place. The current council is only there until January, and the lowering of the lease from $17 million to $11 million is not officially approved. The new mayor, Jerry Weiers, said the the city has a $35 million deficit in their 2013 budget and “is not your cash register.” Weier said he loves the Coyotes but “we cannot sacrifice our way of life so they can maintain theirs.”
Aaron Portzline via twitter: If a new CBA gets done, they could have a training camp of a week or so. 28 to 30 players could attend to compete for the 22-23 roster spots. Portzline notes that players coming from the AHL, Europe or junior teams would have a big advantage over players who are just training. He also points out that there could be groin injuries all over the place, “could make for some uggggg-ly hockey in the early going.”
Eric Stephens via twitter: Teemu Selanne said that players need just a week of training camp, “One week … That’s up my alley.”
John Vogl via twitter: Sabres Cody Hodgson broke a bone in his right hand and will be out for a “couple of weeks.” Hodgson was slashed by Brandon Manning on October 27th, but played the next game. He missed Saturday’s game.
