Injury notes on Phaneuf, Giguere, Markov, Nash, and Smid

  • Dave Hilson of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson talking about Dion Phaneuf, “He’s walking now, with a slight limp, it’s barely even noticeable,” Wilson said. “Hopefully, within the next week, he’ll be able to get back on the ice. Again, I’m not a doctor. It all depends … He’s already had the staples in his knee removed, so the actual cut on the outside is healed. Now it’s waiting for all the things he cut on the inside to heal up.”
  • Dave Hilson of the Toronto Sun: JS Giguere left in the 3rd period of last night’s game versus the Predators. “He came over to the bench and said his groin was tight and he wasn’t comfortable,” Wilson said. “So, he wasn’t sure if he should try to finish the game with his past (this type of injury). But Jonas (Gustavsson) went in and made two or three great saves, and that was huge.”
  • Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: A Russian National team doctor claims that the Andrei Markov told him that he’ll be out a minimum of 5-6 weeks.
  • Rich Thompson of the Boston Herald: Marco Sturm has been working on stops and starts for the last week as he works on getting his knee back in shape. The Bruins hope to have him back in the lineup in early December. “I don’t really know where I am, but somewhere in middle December is the most realistic,” Sturm said.
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Edmonton Oilers defenseman Ladislav Smid suffered a concussion after getting punched by Sean Avery. He’ll be put on the IR, with no timetable on his return set.
  • Aaron Portzline via twitter: Rick Nash returned to practice yesterday after missing the last 5 days.
