  • Stephen Harris of the Boston Herald: Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said he’d be happy if Marc Savard was able to return by late November, “It could be longer; could be shorter. There are so many unknowns in this type of recovery.” On Savard’s workouts, “We have seen positive patterns since he started doing these workouts,” Chiarelli said. “That’s a good sign, because with these kind of situations, you often have down days and he hasn’t had any of those.”
  • Mark Spector via twitter: Spector wonders if the best fit for Sheldon Souray could be with the Calgary Flames. Would a Souray, Andrew Cogliano, plus picks for Cory Sarich and Curtis Glencross work?
  • Rich Hammond of the LA Kings Insider: With Brad Richards taking Scott Parse’s spot on the 2nd line as he’s out with a groin injury, it leaves Kyle Clifford,  Trevor Lewis and centers Andrei Loktionov and Brayden Schenn fighting for two 4th line spots. Terry Murray still doesn’t know which 2 will start in Saturday’s opener. A couple days ago Murray indicated that Loktionov and Schenn were unlikely to the make the final roster. Someone will also have to be sent down when Parse returns.
  • George Richards of the Miami Herald: Erik Gudbranson and the Florida Panthers could not come to terms on an entry level contact by yesterday’s 5pm deadline. Performance Bonuses were the key reason as to why a deal couldn’t get done. Gudbranson was returned to Kingston, and has a good opportunity to play with Team Canada at the World Juniors.
  • Ian Walker of the Vancouver Sun: Darcy Hordichuk has cleared waivers and the Vancouver Canucks are trying to trade him so that he’ll have a chance to stay in the NHL. “We’re trying to do our best to put Darcy in another situation,” said Canucks general manager Mike Gillis. “We don’t know how that will work out. We had some discussions with teams trying to do that, we’re still unsure if that’s going to happen or not. We’ve been trying to do something to keep him in the NHL.”
  • Larry Brooks via twitter: Sources are telling Brooks that the New York Rangers don’t have anything going on in the trade front.
