- Updated 5:10 pm: Nick Kypreos via twitter: Matt Cooke has been suspended for rest of the regular season and the 1st round of the playoffs.
Statement from Penguins GM Ray Shero:
“The suspension is warranted because that’s exactly the kind of hit we’re trying to get out of the game. Head shots have no place in hockey. We’ve told Matt in no uncertain terms that this kind of action on the ice is unacceptable and cannot happen. Head shots must be dealt with severely, and the Pittsburgh Penguins support the NHL in sending this very strong message.”
Penguins forward Matt Cooke was back at it yesterday and will be facing a suspension for an elbow he threw on Ryan McDonagh.
Nick Kypreos via twitter: Matt Cooke has an in-person hearing today with the NHL regarding his elbow on Rangers Ryan McDonagh. 1:00 according to Pierre LeBrun.
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton and Mike Brophy of Sportsnet think the league should make an example of Cooke.
Since it’s an ‘in-person’ hearing, it usually means that it will be a suspension of 6+ games. No debat if he’ll be suspended or not on this one. What do you think he’ll get? Will Mario do anything regarding Cooke?
