Morning Hits: Bergeron, Luongo and Kovalchuk

  • Dan Rosen: Bruins Patrice Bergeron said he’s 95 percent healthy and will be ready for training camp. He has been working out and feeling good.
  • Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun: Roberto Luongo on if he’ll be a happy camper with the Canucks or if he’ll be playing under protest:

“I don’t think it matters,” … “I’m happy to be playing and being a starter, that’s what matters for now, and that’s what I’m focused on. At the end of the day, that’s all you really need, right?”

GM Mike Gillis failed to Luongo a fresh start after they determined that Cory Schneider was their goaltender of the future. Luongo’s contract running till he’s 43-years old was part of the problem. Gillis believed that some team would come around if they continue to wait it out. Obviously, it didn’t happen. Luongo has good reason to feel betrayed.

  • Dmitry Chesnokov: Ilya Kovalchuk on a NHL return: “I didn’t forget about the Stanley Cup. It is still a goal. I’m only 30 and everything is ahead of me.”
