- Elliotte Friedman: Sam Gagner has asked for a one-year $5.5 million deal in arbitration. The Oilers have asked for $3.5 million.

“Our focus is on trying to come to deals with all of these players,” Cheveldayoff said. “We’ve been fortunate to come to deals with two of them (Eric Tangradi and Paul Postma, who also filed). We’re continuing talking.
“Each and every deal falls into place differently, whether the arbitration process is involved or not.”
The Jets currently have $47.2 million committed to the salary cap next next season.

“Yes, very quiet,’’ Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said late Friday afternoon. “And I think that’s to be expected. The cap is coming down this year and a lot of clubs already have their roster in place and payrolls set. I don’t think you’re going to see much more, at least in the short term. Maybe things will pick up late in the summer as camps are about to open.’’
Tim Thomas remains unsigned.

Thomas may only get a training camp invite. The Islanders and Flyers had been rumored to be interested. There was some speculation that the Blue Jackets could be interested, but it looks like they will go with Sergei Bobrovsky and Curtis McElhinney.
