On the Buffalo Sabres …

Pierre LeBrun: The Sabres and Rasmus Ristolainen agreed on a six-year contract with a $5.4 million salary cap hit.

On the Edmonton Oiles and Calgary Flames …

John Shannon: Kris Versteeg rejected the Oilers offer and signed a one-year, $950,000 deal with the Flames.

Darren Dreger: Think that the Oilers may have wanted Versteeg to be more of a part-time player than he really wanted to be.

On the Calgary Flames …

Kristen Odland: Flames GM Brad Treliving said that Matthew Tkachuk will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis. There is no number of games in mind.

Pat Steinberg: Treliving said that Ladislav Smid will start the season on the IR and not LTIR.

Cap Friendly: The Flames have just over $8,000 in salary cap space, so they will likely have to place Smid on the LTIR. He carries a $3,491,734 cap hit.

Bob McKenzie: The Flames signed Nicklas Grossmann to a one-year, $575,000 contract. He was in camp on a PTO.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Paul Friesen: Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec on his demotion: “I know where the NHL’s going with the young players…it’s hard. But it is what it is.”

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

James Mirtle: The Maple Leafs send forward Brooks Laich to the AHL.

On the Pittsbrugh Penguins …

Gino Reda: Sidney Crosby on his concussion: “got tangled up in practice Fri…thought I was fine,… I woke up Saturday. Knew something was wrong”

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman said that Ryan Callahan won’t start the season on the LTIR. He could be back earlier than they originally had thought, though still likely in November. They will go with 12 forwards for now.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan: Coyotes Kevin Connauton and Michael Stone will start the season on the injured non-roster list.

Craig Morgan: Tobias Rieder will arrive in camp today. Jamie McGinn is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Luke DeCock: Roland McKeown and Phil Di Giuseppe make the Hurricanes initial roster. Ryan Murphy is on the IR to start the season. They will need to clear a spot when Jakub Nakladal has his visa issues resolved.
