- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: The Flames will have to look Jarome Iginla’s future with the team this offseason. Francis brings up the question, “Is Iginla more valuable here or as trade bait as this team tries to reshape itself after three years outside of the playoff picture?” Iginla may have something to say when he meets with GM Jay Feaster this week. Iginla may ask what the blueprints are to get back to winning. He and Miikka Kiprusoff will get interest from teams if they hit the trade market.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avalanche will have a decision to make regarding Paul Stastny this offseason. He hasn’t hit the 60 point mark in the last 2 seasons, and he’s struggled in big games. He’s on a 5 year, $33 million deal. The Avs could go with Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reily down the middle and see what they could get for Stastny.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Ducks GM Bob Murray still thinks he may be able to sign college defenseman Justin Schultz. The Ducks plan on moving Saku Koivu to a 3rd line center next year.
- Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune: Wild Pierre-Marc Bouchard has 1 year left on his contract, and is confident he’ll play next season despite battling concussion symptoms this year. Guillaume Latendresse will be a RFA and carries a $2.5 million qualifying offer. He missed 65 games with a concussion.
“I’ve met with Gui, and what I told him is, ‘Let’s get you healthy first, and then we’ll sit down and have a candid discussion to see where you’re at mentally and where you’re at physically and what are your expectations going forward,’ ” General Manager Chuck Fletcher said. “He was a pretty good hockey player for us three seasons ago and he is still a young man.
“I am open-minded and am not ruling out anything at this point in time.”
- Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times: The Canadiens have contacted the Blackhawks about assistant GM Macr Bergevin. Talks may resume after the Blackhawks season is over. Ray Emery signed a 1 year deal worth a reported $1.15 million.

“If this was my last game, it is fine. I can live with that. It’s a little tougher to swallow not making the playoffs because I really believe we have the team.
“That’s the toughest part but everything else, I’m fine with it.”
“I’m going to take a little time off and think about things, evaluate some things and see what happens,” he continued. “I still have a great time. Every day I have a smile on my face when I come to the rink and that’s most important to me. But on the same hand you know you’re going to be 42 this summer and it’s not going to get any easier.”
“Obviously I have to talk to my family. The boys are getting older and it’s hard to be away from home for a long time all the time. There’s things I have to think about but obviously I’m very thankful I have been able to play for so many years.”
