Morning Rumors: Coaches on the hot seat, Elliott, Lundqvist, Canadiens, Sabres, Vanek, Boyle and the Oilers

  • Bruce Garrioch: Panthers coach Kevin Dineen, Wild’s Mike Yeo and Jets Claude Noel could be on the hot seat.

“When you see one team make a coaching change there can most definitely be a domino effect. No question about it, especially if the Flyers have success with Craig Berube. It can get a GM thinking,” a league executive said.

Blues goalie Brian Elliott’s name has come up in trade talk. He has a salary of $1.8 million. Could be an option for the Oilers.

Some wondering if Henrik Lundqvist’s struggles are due to his negotiating a contract extension.

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin is sniffing around for a defenseman. Some think that Douglas Murray may be more injured than they are letting on.

Will something give with regards to Sabres GM Darcy Regier and coach Ron Rolston if their struggles continue. Canadiens assistant GM Rick Dudley could be the top candidate.

The Coyotes, Devils and Panthers could take a run at Sabres Tomas Vanek.

Rangers GM Glen Sather is calling around looking for help on the blueline. He may circle back to Sharks Dan Boyle, who they discussed at last year’s trade deadline.

  • John Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson doesn’t think that Ilya Bryzgalov would be an upgrade for the Oilers. Ryan Miller could be the only goalie available.
  • Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: For the 2012 NHL draft, the Maple Leafs had Tomas Hertl rated at No. 15.
