Morning Rumors I: Flames, Oilers, Coyotes, Bruins, Jackets, Wings, Wild, Flyers, Rangers and Canadiens
  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson thinks the Flames will hire Joe Nieuwendyk or Claude Loiselle to be their next GM.Matheson thinks Ales Hemsky will be traded to the Coyotes. The Coyotes are looking for a left winger, but Hemsky may be a good fit with fellow countryman Martin Hanzal. The Oilers are trying to get a 2nd round pick for Hemsky.

Matheson wonders about Ryan Smyth in a Sharks uniform.

The Bruins are looking at Nick Schultz, Andrej Meszaros, Andrew MacDonald and Chris Phillips. The Islanders want a first round pick, but the Bruins won’t give up a first. The Bruins scouted the Oilers on Thursday and Saturday. The Bruins may offer a mid round pick and are offering Jordan Caron to everyone. Matheson would rather have Matt Fraser than Caron.

The Blue Jackets will likely hold on to Marian Gaborik as he’s not generating a lot of serious interest.

Matheson wonders if the Red Wings would make a deal for Ryan Callahan if he doesn’t re-sign.

The only realistic landing spot for Martin Brodeur is the Wild.

  • Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren will upgrade his defense if the right deal comes along. Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew MacDonald, Christian Ehrhoff and Trevor Daley are among the defenseman that could be available. Rumors are that it would take a roster player and a first round pick to get Byfuglien.
  • Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “The only guy I think will be traded from the big names available by the deadline is Callahan & I’m softening on that too” … “It’s fun to talk & speculate about these trade rumours, but when you factor in the cap situations most scenarios become a longshot”
  • David Pagnotta: There is talk that the Canadiens offered P.K. Subban a seven-year deal worth $49 million. Pagnotta says that the sides haven’t spoken in a while. No need to panic though as there is lots of time to get a deal done. The Canadiens are more focused on Andrei Markov.
  • Adrian Dater: Scouting the Avs – Lightning game last night: Stars and Flames. The Flames scout lives in Denver.
