  • John Shannon: The Olympic trade freeze is on Friday February the 7th at 3:00 PM ET.
  • Corey Masisak of NHL.com: Top teams shopping list:

St. Louis Blues Projected cap space: $1,545,246 – goaltending. Little cap room, would have to move a goalie in a deal. They could look at adding another forward for insurance.

Chicago Blackhawks Projected cap space: $495,822 – a No. 2 center.

Anaheim Ducks Projected cap space: $7,174,986 – they could look for depth down the middle. They have plenty of cap space.

San Jose Sharks Projected cap space: $1,055,000 – have health concerns up front, so could look for some cheap help. Not a lot salary cap space.

Pittsburgh Penguins Projected cap space: $560,000 – scoring depth.

Boston Bruins Projected cap space: $1,615,833 –  a 17-18 minutes defenseman to help with the loss of Dennis Seidenberg.

Los Angeles Kings Projected cap space: $1,359,523 – scoring forward.

Tampa Bay Lightning Projected cap space: $4,515,916 – GM Steve Yzerman might make a minor addition. Organization has a lot of depth.

Colorado Avalanche Projected cap space: $31,850,985 – puck possession players, a second pairing defenseman. Uncertainty surrounding Paul Stastny, Ryan O’Reilly and P.A. Parenteau.

Minnesota Wild Projected cap space: $2,722,636 – speculation of Ryan Miller, help up front. Forward and defensive depth.

Vancouver Canucks Projected cap space: $2,155,232 – help up front, depth.

New York Rangers Projected cap space: $4,582,303– an offensive defenseman could help them.

Detroit Red Wings  Projected cap space: $1,111,833 – not a lot of cap space and have plenty of injuries. Lots of trade chips if they want to make a trade.

Columbus Blue Jackets Projected cap space: $561,425 – little cap room. Could they add and move Marian Gaborik?

Dallas Stars Projected cap space: $7,121,177 – could use another defenseman. They could be buyers and sellers. Ray Whitney and Vern Fiddler could be moved as rentals.

Winnipeg Jets Projected cap space: $1,525,188 – won’t likely be looking for short-term fixes. They could move one of their core players. Could use some depth up front and another top-four defenseman.  Ondrej Pavalec is their biggest question mark.

  • TSN Insider Trading: Bob McKenzie: The Kings desperately need scoring. Matt Moulson would be a good fit, but the cost is high, a 1st and a prospect. Mike Cammalleri could be a fit, but he’s still talking with the Flames about a contract. The Islanders have to decide what they will do with Thomas Vanek. Oilers Sam Gagnercould be an option, but he has two years left at $4.8 million.

Pierre LeBrun: The Canucks will not be in on the rental market. They are not giving up, but may need a retool. Alexander Edlerwill get lots of interest.

Darren Dreger: The Leafs have told teams they would be willing to trade Nikolai Kulemin, but it wouldn’t just be to get rid of his salary. They need player in return, but there have been no offers that have made sense.

  • John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Matt Moulson’sagent said that there haven’t really been any substantial contract talks with the Sabres. There is no concern about his injury affecting his trade status.

“It’s something that we can’t control anyway, so to that end we’re not overly concerned about it,” Arnott told The News by phone. “Obviously, we’re fully aware that we have a standard trade deadline on March 5, but we also have a trade freeze for the upcoming Olympic break before that. I am aware that managers have been talking and are maybe trying to do something prior to this freeze, but in Matt’s case I’m not sure anything was or would get done anyway.”

  • James Mirtle: The Maple Leafs said that they can sign Teemu Hartikainen and if he doesn’t make the team next year, they can loan him back to the KHL.
