- The Fourth Period: Sources are saying the Canucks have contacted teams regarding Roberto Luongo, though nothing is imminent. Another source, “I wouldn’t be totally shocked.” Eddie Lack will be given the start at today’s Heritage Classic. Elliotte Friedman also reported that the Canucks were exploring the Luongo market. It is not known if Luongo was approached by the Canucks.
“I don’t want to start going through this whole thing again,” Luongo said.
“When I’m on the ice, I try to be the best that I can be. The rest is out of my control. I’m not going to start putting myself in a spot like that again.”
The Red Wings, Flyers, Maple Leafs and Blue Jackets are interested in both Ryan Kesler and Alex Edler. The Rangers and Penguins are interested in Kesler. The Canadiens and Lightning are interested in Edler.
- David Pagnotta: “You can be sure Luongo’s fully aware of the situation (deja vu). As is his agent, Pat Brisson, who declined to comment on the matter. Brisson acknowledged to me that there is “lots going on,” but would not comment specifically on the situation or potential trade.”
- Tom Gulitti: (yesterday) “Of waiving his no trade, Martin Brodeur said this afternoon. ““It definitely depends on where it would be” and “I’m not there yet.In other words, if Brodeur waives his no trade it’s going to be team specific/offer specific. He wouldnt waive it completey for all trades. Don’t know exactly what @KevinWeekes reported, but am certain Brodeur wouldn’t waive no-trade completely & give up control where he’d go. So, maybe it’s a case that he’s agreed to waive it to go to certain teams. I have no information on that either way. Or maybe it’s simply Brodeur told Lamoriello he’ll waive the no-trade clause if he gets an offer both of them like. But, to say simply he’s waived his no-trade clause, I don’t know what that means.”
- Aaron Portzline: Portzline can’t really imagine the Blue Jackets trading Ryan Johansen to the Canucks for Ryan Kesler. Johansen has shown signs of being a No. 1.
- Renaud Lavoie: The goal for the Canucks is to trade Ryan Kesler by next week, but it won’t be cheap. If they don’t get the right offer, he’ll remain with the team.
- CBC Hockey Night in Canada Hotstove: Buffalo management situation, Sabres trade, Canucks and Kesler. Penguins most aggressive on Kesler. Blackhawks aren’t interested in Kesler. Kesler was saying in Sochi that he wanted to be moved. Canucks may be exploring the market for Roberto Luongo. Glen Healy thinks Martin St. Louis will stay in Tampa. Healy thinks the Sabres could be a landing spot for Callahan, drops Chris Stewart’s name. Brad Boyes looking like he’s re-signing in Florida
