  • Elliotte Friedman: If the Oilers were to trade their 2014 1st round pick, they’d want a big center or a game-changing defenseman.

It’s thought that the Oilers had interest in Nikita Nikitin. Blue Jackets looking for speed, but it doesn’t look like talks went very far.

Talk is that the Panthers are not interested in trading defenseman Brian Campbell.

Contract extension talks between the Panthers and Marcel Goc will start soon.

The Canucks may have interest in Panthers Shawn Matthias. Friedman thought the Flyers might, but was told that was “bad info.”

  • TSN Insider Trading: Dreger: two names on the trade market lately are Brayden Schenn and Michael Del Zotto. The Flyers may look to move Luke Schenn as well. Five or six teams have talked to the Rangers about Del Zotto.

LeBrun: The Senators are looking for a puck moving defenseman and LeBrun thinks the Senators are one of the teams that called the Rangers about Del Zotto.

LeBrun: Pekka Rinne will have an MRI on his hip next week. If it’s not good news, trade talk may heat up.

  • myNHLtraderumor: Kypreos said during the intermission last night that Brayden Schenn could be available and there is talk of the Oilers. He said he thinks the Maple Leafs have called, and that it would likely cost Jake Gardiner.
  • Bob McKenzie: Red Wings are close to signing defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a contract extension. McKenzie thinking it could be four or five years in the $4 million per year range.
  • Chris Stevenson: On the Martin Havlat to Senators rumors … according to a scout it was Milan Michalek and his expiring contract going back to the Sharks.
  • Allan Walsh: “Hearing several media reports today regarding trade talks involving Martin Havlat. Martin has a full No Move Clause and no one has ever suggested to himanything about a trade. He is happy in San Jose and solely focused on playing hockey.”
  • Patrick Kearns: “Uh I don’t see Havlat with Rangers at all. Unless the Sharks are taking back Richards contract, no chance. Unless of course Rangers secretly plan on letting either Lundqvist, Girardi or Callahan walk to bring in a diminished, broken player. So yeah, move on from that one.”
  • Chip Alexander: With Hurricanes goalie Anton Khudobin about a week away, GM Jim Rutherford said they are considering their options. Rutherford said their options are to carry three goalies, trade one or risk putting Justin Peters on waivers: “All are on our radar screen.”
  • Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “Nonis told Clarkson that he didn’t care if he was a 20 goal scorer when he signed him” …  “There is always that GMthat is willing to give you more in term and money. The Oilers offered him 7 years & $4 million more total”
  • Ken Campbell: Only four pro scouts at the Maple Leafs – Islanders game, “smallest contingent I’ve ever seen.”
