- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avalanche are not looking to add a rental player. If the Avalanche don’t re-sign Paul Stastny by Wednesday, it’s possible that they trade him.
“To me, it’s something I really don’t worry about. You worry about (this week) a little bit, but we have a good thing going here and everyone realizes that,” Stastny said Saturday. “You want to keep winning and don’t want to break that chemistry, but at the same time if something happens, it happens. It’s just part of the business. Some things I can’t control and I just worry about what I can control — and that’s playing hockey.”
The Avs or Stastny’s agent won’t comment on the situation. If they do move Stastny, they could look for a young defenseman that could play 20-25 minutes per night and has some time left on their deal, or is at least a RFA.
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: It is believed that the Senators have sent Chris Phillips a contract offer, and he’ll have to decide before Wednesday if he wants to remain with the Senators, or possibly move on. The sides haven’t talked in a couple days. If he doesn’t re-sign, it doesn’t mean he’ll be traded either. The Bruins are just one of the teams that have interest in Phillips. The Senators are interested in Chris Stewart. Three teams have shown interest in Sabres Stewart, with GM Tim Murray looking for high-end prospects from the Senators.
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers may be willing to go six-years and $36 million for Ryan Callahan. If that isn’t enough for him, it would be his choice to test the open market in hope of getting more.
- Andrew Gross: Rangers coach Alain Vigneault expressed his confidence and optimism that Ryan Callahan will re-sign.
- Tracey Myers: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman is not focused on the trade deadline, likes his team chemistry going forward.
- Scott Powers: Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said that there is still a possibility that Teuvo Teravainen could come over this year, but it would depend if he plays in the World Championship.
