Larry Brooks of the New York Post: Glen Sather’s primary focus is on keeping Ryan Callahan. The St. Louis Blues had offered Chris Stewart in a straight-up deal for Callahan before trading him to the Buffalo Sabres. The Rangers passed on the opportunity to make the swap.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have had keen interest in Callahan, but aren’t believed to ante up for him as a rental.
The San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks have been scouting the Rangers lately, but source tells The Post, Vancouver is an extremely unlikely rental destination for Callahan.
The Rangers have received several inquiries regarding pending free agent Brian Boyle.
Sather is seeking depth on defense. He’s had conversations with the Oilers regarding Ales Hemsky.

Ansar Khan: Red Wings GM Ken Holland said he talked to a lot of teams, but the cost to acquire a quality players remains high. He’s still working the phones, in search for a top-four defenseman.
“I don’t think we’re doing anything up front or in goal,” Holland said. “You’re always trying to do something on the back end. Not sure if we will or not.”

The Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings have both shown interest in Phillips.
The Senators have two names on the top of their list: 1) Buffalo’s Chris Stewart, 2) Edmonton’s Ales Hemsky. If the asking price doesn’t change for Stewart, the Senators could turn to Hemsky.
