Thoughts from the media:
Elliotte Friendman: “One note on Boychuk contract: starts with a NMC, then evolves into a small list of teams he can be sent to. Big day for him and NYI.”
Mike Halford: “The Isles have their top-3 D (Boychuk, Leddy, Hamonic) locked in through 2020 at a combined cap hit of $15.3M. That’s pretty good.”
Timo Seppa: “Perspectives on the Boychuk deal: a. $6 million isn’t what it used to be and b. Historically #Isles have had a hard time landing top-four D.”
Daniel Friedman: “Any contract that allows you to keep your franchise defenseman in today’s NHL is a good contract. They don’t grow on trees, you know.”
Sean Gentille: “The fact that it makes sense for the Isles to sign a 31-year-old for seven-years and $42 million is truly insane.”
Shawn Simpson: “Great job Garth Snow. Gave up multiple picks for a rental in Boychuk. Under contract for 7 more years. 42 million. Stability on the Island?”

Nicholas Goss: “7-year deal for a 31-year-old defenseman isn’t ideal, but Boychuk has been a rock on the Islanders blue line.”
Daniel Friedman: “With Boychuk & Leddy signed, #Isles have solidified their top defense pairing for the next seven years. Just let that sink in for a moment.”
