On the Ottawa Senators …

Mike Morreale: Defenseman Erik Karlsson didn’t practice today. During Game 2 he was dealing with some foot pain.

Chris Johnston of Sportsnet: Senators forward Clarke MacArthur said that he left Saturday’s game early with a pinched nerve in his left shoulder/neck area. Thankfully it had nothing to do with a concussion.

MacArthur said he wasn’t feeling 100 percent before the start of Game 2 and it got worse after he was hit by Ryan McDonagh.

“That’s where it seized up again,” MacArthur said Monday after practice. “It was near the end of the first and then after sitting for the 20 minutes between periods I went out there and my whole left side felt . By the second shift, I remember passing it to , and trying to take a couple strides and I’m like ‘No, I better get out of here.’ I couldn’t feel my left leg hardly, but all good now.

“I literally had a pinched nerve. They released it and I was like instantly better. Instant.”

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: MacArthur traveled with the team, was on the ice today and he could be available for Game 3 on Tuesday.

If MacArthur can’t go Tom Pyatt could take his place. Pyatt got clearance to return on the weekend but was held out as coach Guy Boucher didn’t want to change his lineup.

Defenseman Mark Borowiecki is not close to returning, with Boucher not having a timetable he could return from his leg injury.

On the Washington Capitals …

Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid Atlantic: Defenseman Karl Alzner will take the warmups tonight before deciding if he’ll be able to go.

“We’re going to do warmup, and he’ll be a game-time decision,” Trotz said after the morning skate.

Alzner has been out since Game 2 of round one with an upper-body injury. He was paired with Taylor Chorney as the extra pairing at practice this morning but didn’t stay after for extra conditioning.

On the Pittsburgh Penguins …

Jesse Dougherty: Fowards Patric Hornqvist and Carl Hagelin, and defenseman Brian Dumoulin didn’t take part in the Penguins morning skate.

On the Nashville Predators …

Thomas Willis: Forward Craig Smith on his injury:  “You just take it day by day and hope you wake up and it’s back to normal.” … “Today, tomorrow, whenever. I’m eager to get back out there soon.”
