On the New York Islanders …

Arthur Staple of Newsday: The Islanders said that John Tavares had surgery on his right hand in April. He’s expected to be ready for the start of next season.

Tavares still has a cast on, but it’s expected to come off next week.

Tavares had missed the final five games of the season with a hamstring injury.

On the St. Louis Blues ..

Jeremy Rutherford and Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues forward Alex Steen had played the first two rounds of the playoffs with a broken left foot. Steen blocked a shot in Game 1 of their first series against the Wild. He wasn’t practicing and didn’t miss game until he blocked another shot in Game 4 against the Wild. He missed Game 5.

Jeremy Rutherford and Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The Russian coach for the World Championship said that Vladimir Tarasenko won’t play because he needs surgery. The Blues wouldn’t confirm this, and his agent said that more would be known after a medical exam which is schedule for early this week.

On the Arizona Coyotes …

Craig Morgan: Coyotes forward Tobias Rieder suffered a lower-body injury while playing in the World Championships and will be out for the remainder of the tournament.

Craig Morgan: Early reports are that Rieder’s injury isn’t serious and the Coyotes don’t think it will require surgery. More will be known on the injury in the next few days.

On the Toronto Maple Leafs …

Kristen Shilton of TSN: Maple Leafs prospect Frederik Gauthier suffered a lower-body injury and could be out for up to six months.
