- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Goalie Curtis McElhinney injured his knee in practice on Friday and will be out for the rest of the season. He’ll have arthroscopic knee surgery tomorrow.
On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
- Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Valtteri Filppula has been out with an upper-body injury. He practiced in a no-contact jersey yesterday. Coach Jon Cooper said he won’t play on Tuesday, but next Friday or Saturday is a possibility.
“It’s encouraging to see him out there,” Cooper said. “Baby steps, but we thought it might be weeks away and now maybe it’s not going to be that.”
On the San Jose Sharks …
- Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Matt Nieto missed yesterday’s game, but neither is expected to be out long-term.
“I would term them day-to-day, but not available today,” DeBoer said on Saturday morning.
Coach Pete DeBoer yesterday.
“Any time he’s out, you’re concerned. He’s a key guy for us,” DeBoer said. “I guess the silver lining, it’s better now than three or four weeks from now. The good news is it’s not long term. He will be back.”
Nieto will likely be out longer than Vlasic, but he’ll be ready before the end of the regular season.
