On the New York Rangers …

Steve Zipay of Newsday: The Rangers started the season with eight defensemen, but are now down to six healthy ones after their first two games. Coach Alain Vigneault said that Dan Girardi is “more than day-to-day” with a hip flexor injury. Kevin Klein is didn’t skate at at all last week due to back spasms.

On the Edmonton Oilers …

Jason Gregor: Oilers backup Jonas Gustavsson didn’t come out for the third period last night as an independent NHL in-house spotter checked him out and determined that he was not okay to go back in.

On the New York Islanders …

Brett Cyrgalis: The Islanders put Shane Prince on the IR retroactive to October 15th with a lower-body injury.

Arthur Staple of Newsday: Islanders forward Casey Cizikas left in the third period with a leg injury. He blocked a shot in second period with the back of his leg.

On the Boston Bruins …

Fluto Shinzawa: Coach Claude Julian is optimistic that Tuukka Rask will be ready for tonight. David Backes is okay and Patrice Bergeron is skating back in Boston.

Steve Conroy: With Bergeron skating back in Boston, it’s unlikely that he plays tonight, though he hasn’t been ruled out yet.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Kirk Penton of the Winnipeg Sun: Jets center Bryan Little is out an unknown amount of time with possibly a knee injury.
