On Sidney Crosby …

Pens Inside Scoop: Head coach Mike Sullivan on Sidney Crosby: “We’ll take each day as it comes. We’re encouraged by the progress he’s made to this point and we’ll go from there”

Wes Crosby: Sullivan added that Crosby will have to practice with contact before returning to the Penguins lineup.

Tom Gulitti: Crosby won’t be in the lineup for their season opener.

On Patrice Bergeron …

Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: Claude Julien said that Patrice Bergeron will miss their season opener tomorrow night, “a minor injury . . . not a major injury.” He didn’t practice today and didn’t speak with the media yesterday. They are calling it a “lower-body injury” and it may have occurred at practice yesterday morning. David Backes will center Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak while Bergeron is out.

Austin Czarnik is expected to be in the lineup as he’s recovered from a concussion.

On Jack Eichel …

John Vogl: The Sabres announce it’s a high ankle sprain for Jack Eichel. He will likely be out for a minimum of a month, maybe past two. The Sabres aren’t putting a timeline on it at this moment.

John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Jack Eichel is having is ankle evaluated by doctors this afternoon according to coach Dan Bylsma.

“He has an ankle injury. At this point, not a lot to tell after that,” Bylsma said. “He goes down in a lot of pain, obviously. The initial shock of it is you see that, but we’re going to let it calm down here and get it evaluated and see the extent of him turning his ankle there.

“You’re looking at one of your key players, one of your best players going down in pain on the ice. It’s not a good thing.”
