NHL injury updates

Richard Morin of the Arizona Republic: Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jordan Oesterle left and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. He as hit in the back of the head by a shot at the same time his face was hit by Darcy Kuemper‘s glove.

He received stitches to the back of the head and was feeling dizzy between periods.

Wes Gilbertson: The Calgary Flames didn’t update the status of forwards Elias Lindholm and Andrew Mangiapane after the game.

Mark Lazerus: Chicago Blackhawks Zack Smith has had consecutive maintenance days – likely has some sort of nagging issue.

Daniel Nugent-Bowman: Edmonton Oilers Joel Persson is in concussion protocol and not on the ice.

Michael Russo: Minnesota Wild forward Joel Eriksson Ek didn’t return for the third period and left the arena in a walking boot. He blocked three Shea Weber shots from the point.

— Here’s Your Replay ⬇️ (@HeresYourReplay) October 18, 2019

Michael Russo: Wild forward Victor Rask didn’t skate yesterday due to a lower-body injury.

Brooks Bratten: Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg wasn’t on the ice for their morning skate yesterday due to a lower-body injury.

  • Adam Vingan: Forsberg is listed as day-to-day.

Shelly Anderson of Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jared McCann returned to practice yesterday. He’d been dealing with a nagging injury. The Penguins are calling it a lower-body injury. McCann didn’t know yesterday if he’ll be able to play tonight. He’ll l be a game-time decision.

Kristen Shilton: Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares will be out for at least two weeks after breaking his finger in last night’s game. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

  • Chris Johnston: A Morgan Riely shot hit Tavares in the right hand on the shift before he scored on the Capitals.
  • Cap Friendly: “#Leafs currently have $380k in cap space from LTIR relief, too little to recall any player. Tavares would also have to be injured 10 games & 24 days for LTIR placement. With 20 players on the roster, the club is also ineligible for a $0 cap hit Emergency Roster Exemption recall”
  • Cap Friendly: “Small clarification: the 20 number for players is specific to skaters (excluding goaltenders), and assuming Tavares is placed on IR, which excludes him from the roster count.”

Andrew Gross: Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice said that they wanted to hold forward Bryan Little out for one more game as he recovers from a concussion. He has been medically cleared to return.
