Steve Zipay of Newsday: Doctors wanted to take a closer look Ryan McDonagh’s lingering issue. He won’t travel with the team, and it’s unclear if he’ll be available on Friday.
“It’s something that has been there for a little bit, doesn’t seem to be getting better right now . . . so our doctors are checking it out,” said Vigneault, who acknowledged that the problem was why McDonagh was given practice days off for “maintenance” or treatment in recent weeks, including Oct. 18, Oct. 24 and Nov. 1.

Sam Werner: Evgeni Malkin is ruled out for tonight by coach Mike Sullivan yesterday. They will re-evaluate Malkin on Thursday to see if he’ll be able to play in their back-to-back games this weekend. Sullivan said Malkin was injured against the Blackhawks. Jake Guentzel took Malkin’s spot between Bryan Rust and Phil Kessel.
