On the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins …
Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins have traded defenseman Derrick Pouliot to the Canucks for defenseman Andrey Pedan and a 2018 4th round pick.
Jason Mackay: Penguins GM Jim Rutherford: “Even though he made some strides forward, it looked like the opportunity wasn’t going to happen here.”
Corey Pronman: On Pouliot: “Guy can skate and move the puck great, he just can’t defend.”
Iain MacIntyre: The Canucks wanted Pouliot in a Ryan Kesler trade back in 2013-14. The Penguins refused and offered Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin.
On the Vancouver Canucks …
Irfaan Gaffar: GM Jim Benning confirms that Olli Juolevi will return to Finland to play this season.
Claimed on waivers …
Bob McKenzie: The Vegas Golden Knights claimed goaltender Malcolm Subban off waivers from the Boston Bruins. The Colorado Avalanche claimed defenseman Patrik Nemeth from the Dallas Stars.
Sean Shapiro: The Stars would have traded Nemeth in the past year if there had been a deal for him. There was simply no offer, so they had to put him on waivers.
Ty Anderson: There was no trade market for Subban. Teams were aware that the Bruins didn’t have any leverage.
On the Minnesota Wild …
Dane Mizutani: Forward Zach Parise will miss at least the first two games of the season.
On the Calgary Flames …
Chris Johnston: The Flames have signed forward Tanner Glass to a one-year, $650,000 deal.
On the Vegas Golden Knights …
Vegas Golden Knights: The Golden Knights assign Vadim Shipachyov, Alex Tuch, and Shea Theodore to the AHL.
Pierre LeBrun: Theodore deserves to be a top-four defenseman but is a victim of the CBA. He’ll be recalled once there is a trade or injury.
Steve Carp: Shipachyov is expected to be in their season opener against the Stars on Friday.
Steve Carp: The moves gives GM George McPhee a little time to make a trade if need be. They have nine defensemen on their roster right now. This will change by Friday
Steve Carp: Both Tuch and Theodore will be back at some point, possibly as early as this weekend.
On Bryan Bickell …
Chicago Tribune: Bryan Bickell will sign a one-day contract and retire as a Chicago Blackhawk.
On the Los Angeles Kings …
Curtis Zupka: Forward Marian Gaborik hasn’t been skating. It’s not a setback, but they are just being cautious.
