On the Arizona Coyotes …

Richard Morin: Coyotes GM John Chayka said that newly acquired Marcus Kruger underwent sports hernia surgery about two weeks ago. He had been dealing with the issue last year. Kruger should be ready for the start of training camp.

“You take (the injury) into consideration, but at the same time you think he got a repair done (where) the recovery is pretty straightforward,” Chayka said. “We think that’ll get the jump back in his skate and it’ll be a real useful and helpful piece to our lineup.”

On the Columbus Blue Jackets …

1st Ohio Battery: Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand doesn’t have a contract for next season, but will suit up for Denmark for the World Championships.

Rob Mixer: The World Championships are in Bjorkstrand’s hometown. He’s obtained insurance to be able to play.

Brian Hedger of BlueJackets.com: Defenseman Zach Werenski had been dealing with an upper-body injury for most of the season and yesterday he had surgery.

Werenski will now be recovering for five-to-six months following shoulder surgery. That timeline should have him back early October at the earliest.

“Zach has been dealing with this injury since early in the season, and while he was able to play through it, our medical team determined that surgery was the best option at this time,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a release issued by the team. “The surgery went very well, and the expectation is Zach will be ready to play by the start of the season or shortly thereafter.”

On the Los Angeles Kings …

Jonathan Davis: Have been hearing that Dustin Brown has been playing through a shoulder issue for the past two seasons. There was more damage than they originally thought and he’s had surgery. He is still scheduled to return for training camp.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Ken Wiebe: Forward Joel Armia returned to the lineup for Game 4 last night.
