On the New York Islanders …
Andy Graziano: The Islanders put defenseman Calvin de Haan on the IR and activated defenseman Thomas Hickey.
Arthur Staple of Newsday: It’s believed that de Haan has a shoulder injury. He had an MRI yesterday and it’s not known yet if he’ll require surgery or not. If he requires surgery, he could be out until the playoffs, if not longer.
“Visually, his reaction didn’t look great,” coach Doug Weight said of seeing de Haan in pain on Saturday. “A big piece of our defense. Having a really good year, a little anonymity behind it, but he’s a great skater, defends hard, he’s fearless blocking shots.”
de Haan had shoulder surgery during 2009-10 and in 2012-13 seasons.
On the Ottawa Senators …
Ken Warren: The Senators recalled defenseman Ben Harpur from the AHL.
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Pens Inside Scoop: The Penguins send forward Patric Hornqvist back to Pittsburgh to have his upper-body injury further evaluated.
On the Washington Capitals …
Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post: Forward T.J. Oshie practiced yesterday and is expected to be in the lineup tonight. He’s missed their past six games with a concussion.
“He’s making the trip,” Coach Barry Trotz said. “I can’t tell you if he’ll play. We’ll see how he is, see how the plane ride is and we’ll make a decision tomorrow.”
