Getzlaf dealing with a lower-body injury

Eric Stephens: Center Ryan Getzlaf missed yesterday’s practice with a lower-body injury. 18-year old Isac Lundestrom was centering Andrew Cogliano and Kiefer Sherwood.

Flyers will be without van Riemsdyk for a while

Bill Meltzer: The Philadelphia Flyers will be without James van Riemsdyk for five to six weeks.

Goaltender Michal Neuvirth was activated yesterday. It’s possible that they carry three goaltenders for a while.

Panthers put Luongo on the IR

NHL.com: Florida Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo is out for two to four weeks with a Grade 1 MCL strain in his right knee.

The Panther have put Luongo on the IR.

“It could have been worse,” Boughner said. “It was a freak accident. It wasn’t like he streched out and pulled it or twisted it that way. Someone fell on him, and that happens during the game.”

The Panthers recalled Michael Hutchinson.

Thornton has an infection in his knee

Paul Gackle of The Mercury News: San Jose Sharks and Joe Thornton got some good news on his knee issue.

“Nothing structurally. It looks like an infection, put him on antibiotics,” DeBoer said before the Sharks’ 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders. “He should be fine.”

Thornton has dealt with knee issues for the past 17 months.

Dubinsky out at least a month

Columbus Blue Jackets: The Blue Jackets have put Brandon Dubinsky on the IR with a strained oblique muscle.

Dubinsky will be out for four to six weeks.

Gagner will stay in Toronto when in the AHL

Dhiren Mahiban: Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Gagner will stay with the Toronto Marlies while he’s in the AHL according to Maple Leafs assistant GM Laurence Gilman: “(They) retain the rights to control him whenever they want. We do have an understanding with them, an agreement, that if they’re going to send him back to the American Hockey League, it will be to us.”

The Marlies have released goaltender Justin Peters from this PTO after they signed Jeff Glass.
