- Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Red Wings signed Daniel Cleary to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million with another $1 million in bonuses. Red Wings GM Ken Holland on the re-signing,
“has more to do with last year. My program has been one of loyalty, and there’s good things and bad things that go with that. Way more good, in my opinion. I reached out to a lot of people before signing Dan, and he’s very popular in our organization and with our on-ice leaders.”
Clearly signed a one-year, $1.75 million deal last year after Mike Babcock pushed hard for him to accept their deal and not the three-year, $8.25 million deal from the Flyers. A verbal agreement was made that they would take care of Cleary this summer.
