Canadiens-Kings make a trade
The Los Angeles Kings trade forward Nate Thompson and 2019 5th round pick (Chicago) for a 2019 4th round pick (Calgary)
Joey Alfieri: “#Habs trade away the fourth-rounder they got from the Flames, but they land the fifth-rounder the Kings got from Arizona. Canadiens have their own fourth and they now have three fifths (ARZ, CHI, EDM)”
Jon Rosen: The Kings had acquired the 5th round pick from the Blackhawks for the rights to Dominik Kubalik.
Some thoughts from the media
Cap Friendly: “Montreal acquiring Thompson with 55 days left in the season, means the #Habs will only use $487,903 of their projected cap space as a result of today’s trade.”
John Lu: “After #Habs recalled Weise from Laval late this morning, they were at the 23-man limit. By adding Nate Thompson they will have to make another roster move to fit him in. Bergevin is retooling his fourth line on the fly.”
Gus Katsaros: “I’d be more concerned about scoring if I was Montreal, instead of depth.”
Jon Rosen: “LA needed to make a move – Lewis activated two days ago but couldn’t play because the forward group had been playing well and there wasn’t a lineup spot for him. They were faced with the possibility of having to scratch younger players like Wagner, thus providing an impetus here.”
Penguins and Blue Jackets make a trade
Cap Friendly: The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Blake Siebenaler from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a conditional 7th round pick.
Waiver pickup
Elliotte Friedman: The New Jersey Devils claimed forward Kenneth Agostino from the Montreal Canadiens.
Blackhawks lockup a goaltender
NHL.com: The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goaltender Collin Delia to a three-year contract at a $1 million salary cap hit.
“It’s a huge vote of confidence in myself and my ability,” Delia said about the contract. ” couldn’t be happier to do it now. At this time of the year, it feels really good.”
Elliotte Friedman: Salary breakdown: $750,000, $750,000 and $1.1 million with a signing bonus of $400,000.
